BOTANICAL &
BIRD ART
by Deborah Watton

My artwork is inspired by the nature around me, birds flitting in and out of my walled cottage garden and the goings on of the wildlife foraging in the undergrowth. Flowers and birds are my passion, and I like to portray them in Professional Coloured Pencil and graphite. The sharp pencils and unique techniques, allow me to produce tiny details bringing each piece to life, blending the results to achieve a painted feel to the work .

New Art Work

Great Grey Owl

I love nature and in particular birds. This is my latest work of a great grey owl which I had the pleasure to meet at an owl sanctuary in Cornwall. A huge bird to look at, but just a tiny body sat underneath all those superbly marked feathers. An absolute delight to draw and such clever, clever creatures.

Polychromos and Luminance coloured pencils on hot pressed Derwent Lightfast paper. High quality, archival Giclee Fine Art prints available.

About....

Deborah Watton Botanical & Bird Artist

I am a botanical artist working predominantly in professional coloured pencil and graphite. These mediums lend themselves to unique techniques which I can use for tiny details in my work, bringing pieces to life and making you feel like you are really in the outdoors among nature itself.

I am particularly inspired by my own walled, cottage garden in a small Worcestershire village, where I can watch the endless activity of the birds among the crammed borders and trees. I am also lucky to have an abundance of beautiful public gardens around me here in Worcestershire to take further inspiration from.

My coloured pencil journey started fairly recently following a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis which stopped me following my outdoor photography passion. I realised that there were many people who struggled to see the beauty of our natural world, so it is my passion to bring bright and vibrant colour to the indoors for everyone to enjoy. My moto is 'bringing the outdoors indoors'.

I am still very much on an artistic journey having completed a Diploma with the London Art College last year, and now studying for a Professional accreditation with the Society of Botanical Artists SBA to further my skills and knowledge in this subject matter. I am also a member of the ever growing Feckenham Artisans local group, which regularly holds events locally to display, demo and sell our work.

My work is available to purchase in two art galleries, Jinny Ring Craft Centre, Hanbury and The Gallery in Pershore, plus you can always purchase from my site directly, should you wish.

If you have any questions, please contact me, I'm always happy to help.

Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy my work
